Afaq Cinemaiya” Journal – University of Oran 1
The first Algerian academic journal specialized in film studies, ranked in category “C” by the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The academic journal Afaq Cinemaiya, published by the research laboratory Indexing and Archiving Revolutionary Films in Algerian Cinema at the University of Oran 1 “Ahmed Ben Bella”, has been promoted to category “C”, making it the first journal specialized in film studies to be officially ranked at the national university level, according to its editor-in-chief, Issa Ras El Ma.
This annual journal was granted this qualification by a decision issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on August 13, following an evaluation by the National Scientific Committee responsible for this process, Dr. Issa Ras El Ma added.
The classification of this journal aims to facilitate the publication of student research, which contributes to increasing its readership and, consequently, enhancing the University of Oran 1’s standing among higher-ranked global universities, according to the same source.
It is worth noting that researchers submitting papers, theses, or dissertations—or seeking promotion to the rank of professor or academic advancement—are required to have previously published a study or academic work in a journal ranked at least in category “C”, as pointed out by the same official.
Since its establishment in 2013, Afaq Cinemaiya has published six issues covering themes such as Cinema and Media, Cinema and Politics, Cinema and Social Reality, Cinema and Philosophy, and Cinema and Societal Issues. The upcoming seventh issue will be open to various topics related to cinema.
The journal is hosted on the national academic journals platform and overseen by an editorial board composed of 18 members, including six international members from countries such as Spain, Italy, Morocco, Tunisia, Iraq, and Jordan.
